Ryan Gosling: TAG Heuer Ambassador

From his role as the brooding pilot in Drive to his Oscar-nominated singing and dancing role in La La Land , Ryan Gosling is an actor who defies typecasting. His roles are characterized by a willingness to fear nothing, to constantly challenge himself, and to push the boundaries of what's possible.
So much so that there's no one better to join TAG Heuer , the Swiss luxury watch brand, as an ambassador, as passion, effortless style, and a commitment to excellence are as important to the actor as they are to the brand. And who better to drive it forward than this actor, who could be considered the heir to the legendary Steve McQueen ; two men for whom style and substance are one and the same. But Gosling represents something else that the brand also wants to convey: a new kind of masculinity that is both sensitive and understated, and that displays a natural confidence by definition.

Gosling has become Hollywood's most versatile leading man by always daring to be different. Few actors would have taken on such challenging films early in their careers as The Believer , Half Nelson , and Lars and the Real Girl . Yet these performances earned him rave reviews, Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations, and a reputation as the most exciting young actor in Hollywood.
But it was Drive that made Gosling go from being an acclaimed performer to a new kind of leading man, one who could not only lend himself to being part of extremely smart ensemble casts: Adam McKay 's The Big Short (The Big Short) , co-starring Christian Bale , Steve Carell and Brad Pitt .
Furthermore, in just three years, Gosling has gone from the runaway success of the musical La La Land , which garnered 14 Academy Award nominations and earned Gosling a Golden Globe, to being part of the sci-fi cult revival with Blade Runner 2049 (co-starring Harrison Ford ) and the prestigious biopic First Man (in which Gosling played astronaut Neil Armstrong ).
Gosling is not only fearless in his casting, but also during filming, performing many of his own stunts. It's a job that clearly excites the actor, since in addition to playing a stuntman in Drive and The Place Beyond the Pines , he has just signed on to play a stuntman in The Fall Guy , to be directed by former stuntman David Leitch . Meanwhile, The Gray Man , due out soon, will be Gosling's most action-packed role to date.
His commitment to excellence even extended to the shoot for his first TAG Heuer advertising campaign, choosing award-winning photographer Pari Dukovic and collaborating with him every step of the way. The result is a vibrantly imaged campaign, inspired by Gosling's own desire to create a campaign unlike any other, and marking another bold departure for the star.
"Ryan said he wanted to do something completely different. Color has emotion and is completely unexpected. When creating these portraits, we wanted to create something that was timeless and timely at the same time. TAG Heuer watches have that timeless quality, and that's exactly what we wanted to do with the campaign," says Dukovic.
It's no wonder, then, that Gosling's performances have often drawn comparisons to the late Steve McQueen, another leading man with a passion for cars, stunts, and spectacle; who, like Gosling, became a movie star but also a true style icon.
