The Rolex GMT-Master II "Coke", reference 16710, is one of the most recognizable icons within the GMT-Master line, known for its two-tone black and red bezel evoking the "Coke" nickname. This 40mm model, crafted from Oystersteel, combines sporty elegance with robust functionality, originally designed for pilots and frequent travelers. Its case features a bidirectional rotating bezel with an aluminum insert and a 24-hour scale, which, together with the GMT hand, allows simultaneous tracking of a second time zone. This watch boasts another standout feature. Toward the end of production, Rolex equipped the 16710 with the new caliber 3186. This caliber 3186 is only found in very high Z serial numbers (from Z7 at least) until the 16710 discontinued in the later M series. This means that the 16710 was equipped with caliber 3186 for less than a year, making it one of the rarest GMT variants. The matte black dial features luminescent hour markers and Mercedes-style hands with Super-LumiNova coating, ensuring excellent legibility in all conditions. The Oyster bracelet with folding clasp provides robustness and comfort. This timepiece is highly prized by collectors for its classic aesthetic and its history within the Rolex catalog as a transitional watch between the older 16170 and the newer 116710.
