Arguably, there is no more iconic travel watch than the Rolex GMT-Master II. With a heritage dating back to the 1950s and a design that has gone on to influence countless watches from the GMT category to sports watches, the modern design carries the legacy of a pioneer, and today rests as one of the most sought-after timepieces of our time. This model, the ref. 116710, is the last generation of the GMT-Master II before the launch of the contemporary steel reference 126710 in 2018. It debuted in 2007, replacing the 16710 at the time, and included both an all-black variant and the famous blue and black "Batman" design. At launch, the reference was highly praised for its technical and aesthetic updates, adding a Triplock crown, anti-reflective Cyclops lens, colored 24-hour hand, ceramic maxi dial and bezel, as well as a new bracelet and movement. Furthermore, the brand has added a Rolex engraving to the inner case, a feature now standard on all of the Swiss manufacturer's watches. The 116710 is powered by Rolex's caliber 3186, an automatic chronometer movement with a 50-hour power reserve. While technically the latest generation compared to the Rolex caliber 3285 released in 2018 and its 70-hour power reserve, the 3186 is nonetheless, at its core, an incredibly capable movement that gives the modern GMT-Master II its famous ease of use, making it ready and equipped for any journey, foreign or domestic.
