The Omega Constellation was launched in 1952 and is named after the Lockheed Constellation passenger aircraft used as a military transport during World War II. The original references featured self-winding bracelet movements, technologically advanced for their time, and pie-shaped dials that gave the watch its distinctive look. The Constellation continued through the 1960s and 1970s with improved movements and design tweaks, until it was reimagined in the 1980s as the Constellation Manhattan. Featuring a quartz movement, mixed-metal bracelets, and a radical design with claws holding the bezel, the Manhattan was very urban-oriented and emblematic of the era's Wall Street excesses. The Manhattan's design evolved in the 1990s and beyond, adding mechanical movements and larger sizes, but retaining the controversial "claws" on the front of the case. More recently, the Constellation has returned to its mid-century roots with the Constellation Globemaster. Featuring the original pie-shaped dial and C-shaped case of the 1960s references, the Globemaster does a fantastic job of combining old-world style with modern watchmaking technologies to create a watch more than worthy of the Constellation name.
