Sunlight is a natural energy source that shines throughout the world, regardless of geographic location. Citizen, a watch brand committed to environmental sustainability, has harnessed this clean energy to power its Eco-Drive line of watches. The company's corporate philosophy is "Loved by citizens, working for citizens," which they strive to translate into the creation of products that are beneficial to society and the environment. By using sunlight as the power source for its watches, Citizen is providing an environmentally friendly product that is also accessible to everyone.

Citizen Eco-Drive 365

In the early 1970s, the world was in the midst of an energy crisis, and Citizen engineers looked to sunlight for a clean, innovative, and non-polluting source of energy. This was the genesis of Eco-Drive, based on a determination to provide the world with environmentally friendly watches that did not require periodic battery replacement. The world's first light-powered analog watch was launched in 1976. Since the launch of this groundbreaking model, Citizen has continued to pioneer light-powered watch technologies, advancing to the point where even small amounts of light can be converted into electricity to power Eco-Drive watches. Citizen has also worked to improve the functionality and aesthetic appeal of each subsequent Eco-Drive model, and Eco-Drive watches are now worn by people in 140 countries and regions around the world.

New designs

Citizen has launched the new Eco-Drive 365 models featuring the Caliber E365 movement, which allows each watch to run for 365 days on a full charge. Furthermore, the standard 27 mm diameter has been maintained with greater power generation efficiency, further enhancing the advantages of the company's patented Eco-Drive technology. The watch designs are inspired by a quartz watch model launched by Citizen in 1973, which has been studied and adapted to offer a fresh new interpretation. The watch case features iconic lines and has been treated and polished with Citizen's expertise in stainless steel. The dial, used to generate power, has also been updated using the latest manufacturing techniques. In addition, the limited-edition model incorporates lab-grown rubies reminiscent of the indexes of the original 1973 design. The leather strap has been manufactured by an LWG-certified tanner.

The Citizen BN1015-52E and BN1014-55E models feature a modern and elegant design. While the BN1015-52E is all black, the BN1014-55E uses silver-toned stainless steel. The stainless steel case of these models combines straight lines and flat surfaces with ridges at 12 and 6 o'clock that blend smoothly with the lines of the bracelet. The dial that generates power for the watch was created using the latest manufacturing techniques and features a design inspired by an endless starry sky. The metal indexes are located on the outer ring to create a sense of depth and width. The vertical lines of the case are accentuated by the facets on each side and the elegant metal hands.

Citizen's Eco-Drive watch, with its distinctive case design, is visually appealing thanks to its distinctive ridges, ruby-red indexes, and leather strap. This design evokes the Citizen Quartz EFA model, launched in 1973. The indexes are decorated with four lab-grown CRESCENT VERT rubies, which have superior purity and transparency, and a vivid red color with a slightly violet hue shared by quality natural rubies. The strap uses LWG-certified leather. This iconic Citizen quartz model from 1973 has been renewed as an Eco-Drive watch after 50 years, reflecting the new potential and evolutionary possibilities of watches in a new era.
