TAG Heuer, the renowned Swiss luxury watchmaker, surprises us once again with the addition to its iconic Monaco collection. Unveiled at the 80th Monaco Grand Prix, the new TAG Heuer Monaco chronograph watches, with their skeletonized dial, mark the first time the brand has introduced this design to the Monaco collection. This new line includes three unique timepieces, each with its own distinctive inspiration.

First introduced in 1969, the TAG Heuer Monaco quickly became one of the most iconic watches in history. Its bold square case design and innovative chronograph functions were unlike anything else on the market at the time. It soon became synonymous with the brand, earning a following among racing enthusiasts and watch lovers alike.

Since its creation, the watch has appeared on the wrists of many racing icons, such as Joe Siffert, Jochen Rindt and a true friend of the brand, Steve McQueen, who famously wore a TAG Heuer Monaco in the 1971 film "Le Mans" , and whose watch became synonymous with his style.

More than 50 years after the birth of the Heuer Monaco, TAG Heuer is launching three new models, incorporating for the first time in the collection a skeletonized dial that reveals the watch's mechanism. All three models, "Original Blue" , "Racing Red" , and "Turquoise" , feature openwork that promises to become iconic. These watches have been designed to offer an avant-garde interpretation of the racing world, with a vibrant contemporary style destined to resonate with collectors and young people alike.

Each TAG Heuer Monaco timepiece with a skeletonized dial tells a unique story. The "Original Blue" is inspired by the first TAG Heuer Monaco with a blue dial. The blue and red colors are featured on the dial, the column balance, and the oscillating weight engravings, paying homage to the 1969 TAG Heuer Monaco and its original success.

The "Racing Red" design nods to the TAG Heuer Monaco's racing DNA, with the red color often referencing the sparks of racing on the track. The black and silver accents are particularly noticeable on the dial, along with the red column wheel and the red engravings visible on the oscillating weight, completing the racing-inspired feel.

The in-house Heuer 02 movement powering all three watches creates a harmonious contrast to the movement of the original TAG Heuer Monaco versions from the 1970s. This movement uses a conventional column balance to activate the chronograph and boasts an 80-hour power reserve, one of the largest for a chronograph in the watch industry. Furthermore, the exquisite workmanship of the Heuer 02 is accentuated by an engraved oscillating weight that shows through the sapphire caseback. The new skeletonized Monacos have a technical and robust appearance thanks to their sandblasted grade 2 titanium case.

The three new TAG Heuer Monaco chronograph pieces are an exciting addition to this iconic collection. They offer a fresh perspective on the iconic design with a modern, avant-garde twist. The company's focus on a disruptive heritage, combined with the use of cutting-edge technology, has resulted in simple yet complex timepieces that capture the imagination and promise to make a statement. With an estimated price of CHF 10,500 for the "Original Blue" and "Racing Red" models, and CHF 11,000 for the "Turquoise" , these watches will be available from May 2023.
