OMEGA Days 2022: Speedmaster '57 Caliber 9906
Fernando AldeaDespite being originally designed for motor racing, the Speedmaster was destined for flight, making it the first watch worn on the moon. In 2022, this professional chronograph is on track to conquer a new generation of speed lovers.
A slightly scaled-down '57 with great performance.Omega's famous Speedmaster '57 , first introduced in 2013, returns in 2022 with a Master Chronometer update and a slimmer profile. The new collection features eight new stainless steel models, all powered by Omega's Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre 9906. The use of a hand-wound movement allows for a slimmer case and a thinner bezel, giving the new '57 watches a streamlined look.
There is an edition with a black sandwich dial with raised hour markers filled with vintage Super-LumiNova, and three versions with PVD dials in blue, green, and the new burgundy varnish. The entire collection is presented on stainless steel bracelets or color-coordinated leather straps.
With a case thickness of just 12.99 mm, the new Speedmaster '57 is considerably thinner than the Speedmaster Moonwatch 3861 (13.58 mm). Of course, there's always room for a nod to space history in a Speedmaster watch. In this case, the bracelet of the steel version is inspired by the Apollo 11 tribute watch launched in 2019 and features Omega's patented, comfortable adjustment system.
