New Chronomat GMT 40 and "Super" 38
Fernando AldeaBreitling has just unveiled its latest additions to the Chronomat family—the Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 and Super Chronomat Automatic 38—two new models with attributes that go beyond the ability to adapt to any wrist.
Since its relaunch in 2020, the Chronomat has become Breitling's best-seller. It is available in a wide variety of sizes, including robust 44 mm chronographs and svelte 32 mm three-hand models. But until now, there has been a gap between the models. Today, Breitling is rounding out its catalog with the new Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 and Super Chronomat Automatic 38 , with diameters designed to fit all wrists.
The size of these models is just one of their attributes, but there are many more. The Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 swaps the chronograph of other larger models for a dual-time-zone complication and a simplified design, while the Super Chronomat Automatic 38 series stands out for its oversized diamond bezel and is Breitling's first traceable watch.
"With this launch, we're redefining the Chronomat and Super Chronomat, giving each piece its own unique personality," said Breitling CEO Georges Kern. "Although it's also true that this collection was already known for pushing the boundaries."

But during that turbulent decade, at least one consumer category remained loyal to mechanical chronographs: pilots. In 1983, Italy's national aerobatic squadron, the Frecce Tricolori , collaborated with Breitling to create a personalized timepiece for its members that was robust enough for the cockpit, yet also stylish enough to wear in leisure time.
In addition, the versatile sports watch introduced elements that would become its trademark: four raised moving indices marking the quarter hours to protect the crystal and a steel Rouleaux bracelet, designed for greater comfort and durability. The Frecce Tricolori watch caused a sensation when it was introduced and, a year later, was launched to the public under the name Chronomat. It was a defining moment in the watchmaking industry that marked the end of the quartz crisis and the return of the mechanical watch. Today, this family of watches makes a comeback.
Globetrotting design: Chronomat Automatic GMT 40
Cities have opened up, a world forced to stay at home is eager to travel again, and in response, GMT complications have reemerged with even greater force. Named after Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), the international time zone scale, the Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 pays tribute to travel—not only by incorporating dual time zone functionality but also by embracing a relaxed aesthetic.
It features a dial with subtle hues of black, blue, green, anthracite, and white paired with a full steel case and bracelet, perfect for any style. Breitling opted for a matching 24-hour scale to let the red GMT hand speak for itself.
Breitling's Caliber 32 powers the GMT complication. The 24-hour scale allows the wearer to read a second time zone and know at a glance whether it is day or night in that zone. The "onion" crown (a classic Chronomat feature named for its ribbed, convex shape) provides an easy grip. As an all-round sports watch designed to unite Breitling's worlds of air, land, and sea, the GMT 40 is water-resistant to a depth of 200 meters.
