Our watchmaking letter to Santa Claus
Fernando AldeaThis year, at LOFT, we're ahead of schedule with our Santa wish list. Why? Because we all know watches are the perfect gift, especially when they come from Santa himself. Here are our requests based on how we behaved this year: from watches for our role models to consolation prizes for those who "tried."
If we behave very well
Dear Santa Claus, or, as all of Latin America says, Father Christmas, we've been a role model this year. Therefore, our wishes are anything but modest. First, the Christopher Ward Bel Canto, chosen by this humble servant. This watch is a masterpiece that democratized chiming in fine watchmaking. Its design allows you to see the mechanism that produces the sound, and with each hour, this watch chimes in the style of a creation from the Holy Trinity of watchmaking. With a more than reasonable price for what it offers, Santa, we believe it's within your reach.
In addition, the Bel Canto features a Sellita SW200 automatic movement, modified to include a striking module visible on the front. The titanium case makes it lightweight and durable, while its open dial reveals enchanting mechanical details. It's a watch that combines innovation and tradition, ideal for those who dream of something out of the ordinary.

Daniel, on the other hand, wholeheartedly covets the Toledano & Chan, a brutalist, asymmetrical piece that captures the aesthetics of 1970s architectural watches. This model, with its unique design and distinctive character, epitomizes refined, out-of-the-box taste. It's rare and hard to come by, but we're sure if you can't get your hands on it, no one else can.
The Toledano & Chan is unmistakable. Its geometric design and architecturally inspired stainless steel case are perfect. Its clean lines and asymmetrical dial break away from boring traditional molds, creating a watch that is as much a piece of art as a functional tool. It's a watch for those who aren't afraid to stand out, ever.

If we behave more or less
We know we weren't up to scratch all year, but we did our best. For those "in-between" days, I choose the Lorca Model No. 2. This beautiful retro chronograph is a nod to vintage design with its inverted panda dial, compact case, and "rice grain" bracelet. It's accessible, elegant, and has a nostalgic feel that makes it irresistible.
The Lorca Model No. 2 is powered by a VK64 mechanical-quartz movement, combining precision and practicality with a Mad Men aesthetic. Its 38 mm case is perfect for those looking for a classic size, while its domed sapphire crystal adds the masterful finishing touch. It's a balanced watch, ideal for those who appreciate the small details.

Daniel opts for something close to his diving heart: the Doxa Sub 200T Sharkhunter, the perfect diver for the Southern Hemisphere summer. Its more compact and lightweight design compared to the brand's other models makes it ideal for those who want the best of Doxa, but in a smaller format. Its black dial and iconic bracelet make it an instant classic. Santa Claus, this watch screams adventure and summer, perfect for a warm and sun-filled Christmas.
The Doxa Sub 200T Sharkhunter features a unidirectional ceramic bezel, 200-meter water resistance, and a reliable Swiss automatic movement. Its 42 mm case and dial with luminescent indexes ensure legibility in any situation. It's a diving watch that combines retro aesthetics with the modern features we enthusiasts are always looking for.

If we misbehave
Okay, Santa, we know we weren't paragons of virtue this year, but we still want something under the tree. In this situation, I choose the Timex 1983 E-Line Reissue with a silver dial, a watch that channels all the retro charm of the '80s. Its integrated case and clean design make it a classic that will never go out of style.
The Timex 1983 E-Line Reissue features a brushed stainless steel case and a minimalist silver dial with applied indexes. Its quartz movement makes it ultra-reliable and affordable, while its integrated bracelet ensures a comfortable fit. It's the perfect watch for those of us who love a vintage look without compromising on functionality.

Daniel, as always more daring, opts for the Casio Casiotron TRN-50, a vintage model that captures the essence of digital watches from another era. With its practical functionality and distinctive design, this Casio is a tribute to the early days of digital watchmaking. It may not be luxurious, but it has all the character a good watch needs.
The Casio Casiotron TRN-50 offers a square design with a digital display that shows the time, date, and additional functions. Its ultra-lightweight resin construction and durability make it ideal for everyday use and the "bumps" that come with modern, hectic life. It's a watch that appeals to '80s nostalgia, a great gadget for those who appreciate original and practical designs.

Conclusion
So, dear Santa Claus, here are our three picks based on how we behaved this year. Because if we learned anything at LOFT, it's that no matter how we behave, there's always a perfect watch waiting to be worn. And remember: Christmas is always better with watches.
