The TAG Heuer Autavia collection draws inspiration from the original Autavia models of the mid-20th century to appeal to a new generation of explorers seeking adventure-ready design and high-precision timekeeping.

The Autavia watches, reintroduced in 2017 and 2019, form a standalone collection of models that feature the versatility, robustness, and reliability that characterized the original Autavia watches produced in the 1960s.

Inspired by the original design, valued by both drivers and racers, the new Autavia models offer quality, precision, and timeless style. Seven models make up the sporty Autavia collection: five in stainless steel and two in bronze. Wearers can choose from a variety of strap options and, thanks to its innovative Easy Interchange System, can switch from leather to metal or fabric on the fly. Each Autavia is powered by the COSC-certified Caliber 5 automatic movement, offering outstanding precision and reliability in any conditions.

Paving the gap between past and future

As one of the brand’s original mainstays, it was fitting that the Autavia collection was recently reintroduced to TAG Heuer’s selection of contemporary watches. From 1933 to 1957, the Autavia was a dashboard instrument used in racing cars and airplanes. The name itself comes from the combination of automobile and aviation . After production of the Autavia dashboard timer stopped, the name was still available, and then-CEO Jack Heuer decided to use it for the chronograph wristwatch the Swiss watchmaker launched in 1962. Instantly recognizable, this innovative timepiece captured the energy and excitement of rally racing. Popular with motorsports enthusiasts and armed forces around the world, the Autavia enjoyed great success and an excellent reputation until production ceased in 1985. At Baselworld in 2019 and 2017, the Autavia was reintroduced as a collection, with seven references designed in the spirit to which the Autavia has always been associated.

The Autavia universe captured in a contemporary style

TAG Heuer's airplane cockpit-inspired watch features striking elements rooted in the line's history. What fans loved about the original—its functionality, timeless style, and numerous combinations—are also evident in the new models. The 42 mm, three-hand, stainless steel models feature the rounded case and beveled lugs of the first generation from the 1960s. A bidirectional rotating bezel with a 60-minute scale in black ceramic, blue ceramic, or stainless steel enhances the watch's sporty look. The XL crown is inspired by pilot's watches and timers, which used oversized crowns to make them easier to use while wearing gloves. The original Autavia was also known for being highly legible in all conditions, and this is also the case with contemporary versions.

The hour, minute, and second hands and hour markers are coated with Super-LumiNova®. The smoked dial is available in black, gray, or blue, and features a date window at 6 o'clock.

Powering Autavia watches is the COSC- certified Calibre 5. Images of a propeller and a tire are engraved on the stainless steel caseback that houses the self-winding mechanical movement.

Audacity in bronze

In addition to the stainless steel models, TAG Heuer also offers two bronze versions. The 42 mm watches feature a green or brown fumé dial with a bidirectional rotating bezel in black or brown ceramic, respectively. The model with the brown dial and brown ceramic bezel comes on a brown leather strap, while the model with the green dial and black ceramic bezel comes on a khaki leather strap. The caseback of these watches is made of titanium.

Bronze is not only elegant and distinctively timeless, it's also durable and ready for an outdoor lifestyle. Plus, each box tells a unique story through the ever-changing patina that naturally develops on the bronze over time, depending on the user's habits.

Customizable looks with straps and bracelets

Suitable for any adventure or any style, the strap or bracelet on each model in the Autavia collection is interchangeable. The calfskin straps come in dark brown or light brown. A NATO strap is included in the box for watches that come with a stainless steel bracelet. The bracelet and strap are easy to change at home using simple buttons on the bottom of the case—no tools required. NATO straps, leather straps, and stainless steel bracelets are sold separately, so wearers can create their own combinations to complement their unique look.

TAG Heuer's DNA is clearly expressed in this family of avant-garde watches. Inspired by past successes, the Autavia collection has its own authentic identity, yet remains faithful to the original models that made their mark on the brand's history.
